Highlights of Denfair 2017

The Denfair exhibition held in Melbourne in June 2017 provided some great insights for future trends.  In a nutshell:

The trends which are set to continue:

  • the Scandi look
  • linen
  • marble
  • metallics such as brass fittings

Emerging trends:

  • Navy coloured soft furnishings such as sofas, bedding and cushions
  • Velvet soft furnishings

My must have item of the exhibition was the Lumio lamp which is available from Top 3 by design.  The lamp, designed by Max Gunawan, looks like a book but folds out to 360 degrees.  It comes in a blonde maple or walnut timber finish.  The Lumio is cordless and is charged by a micro-USB charger.  It can also be hung by a beautiful leather strap which is included.  It’s great to see a functional design piece which is a such a talking point.

An eye-catching sculptural piece was the Telegon wall light designed by Alex Earl.  It is a luminaire made from solid timber surrounded by an illuminated ring.

I love the London Italian marble nesting coffee tables by Urban Couture, demonstrating that marble is still definitely on trend.

The Big Log Coffee Table designed by Mark Tuckey is a unique feature piece evoking a ‘back to nature’ vibe.

The Classicon Day Bed designed by Eileen Grey demonstrates that navy is the colour of the moment. The Day Bed is available from Anibou in a range of fabrics including leather.

The Zuster exhibit also demonstrates that Navy is on trend.  The pairing of tan and navy works really well together.

This sideboard by Mr Frag studios provides some subtlety with its darkness but I love the detail of the carved finish.  The brass handles provide a striking shiny contrast to the darkness of the piece.

Navy was also prominent in the Domo furniture exhibit.  The Desdemone bed, designed by Nasrallah & Horner, has an upholstered curved headboard reminiscent of a shell.

These gorgeous Bolle chandeliers designed by Giopato & Coombes, are available from District.  The bubble shapes evoke an effervescent feel as though you are transcending a bottle of champagne.  They would be an impressive statement piece in a foyer or even in a large entertaining area (with a high ceiling of course!)

I love this floating shelf manufactured by Urban Couture.  It is available in carrara marble, black stained solid ash or American oak.
